Exploring the Links between Fertilizers, Climate Change and Dead Zones Side Event at the UN CSD 18

The use of agrochemicals in conventional agriculture is detrimental to the environment and seriously impacts coastal marine life. Chemical fertilizers infiltrate waterways and subsequently create ‘eutrophication’, the imbalance of nutrients in the water. This leads to the depletion of oxygen in certain areas creating ‘dead zones’ along coastal areas.

We can help prevent the occurrence of eutrophication by implementing Natural Agriculture, because it does not utilize fertilizers of any kind. This is another way in which working in harmony with nature through the practice of Natural Agriculture can enable us to become better stewards of the earth.
